School Year 2019-20 Class Lineup
Summer 2020 Programs & Classes Coming Soon
A Message from the Director,
The FUTURE OF DANCE is really HERE! We have been dancing for 49 seasons! There isn’t anything better than to be taught by the best faculty who live to love and inspire their students! Since my mom started the school in 1971, we have always been about sharing our LOVE OF DANCE. As our community’s 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, we hope you will take advantage of our passion and DANCE YOUR LIFE! We house both recreational and pre-professional intensities of study in a joyful and professional atmosphere. Our fine tuned programs allow students to express themselves and to study a broad range of styles with a solid foundation in Ballet and Dance.
Our main educational goal is to provide inspiration and education to our students in an environment of health. As you explore our programs, you will learn about our school divisions: The School of Early Childhood, The School of Ballet and The School of Commercial Dance. At Greater York Dance, you will choose your schedule based on what styles of dance you enjoy.
I am happy to share that we have several local, national and international partnerships in place in order to give you the best the dance world has to offer such as:
American Ballet Theatre with Lauren Yentzer (certified to teach the ABT® National Training Curriculum) is the basis for the School of Ballet.
We are fortunate to have professional ballerina, Marena Perez from Puerto Rico, as Artistic Advisor to the Midstate Ballet. Marena consults with artistic staff, coaches for YAGP and visits the school as often as possible.
Our Early Childhood faculty is certified to teach the Twinkle Star Dance™ Curriculum, led by Allison Smith and Niki Zengerle.
The School of Commercial Dance boasts Disney Musical performances and has talented and educated instructors like Amanda Klotz who also creates original musicals for the Midstate Musical Theatre. Amanda attended the American Musical & Dramatic Academy and The New School University and has a BFA in Musical Theatre.
We are blessed to have NFL Baltimore Ravens Cheerleader, Jennah Motter, on our faculty. Jennah brings the latest in Jazz, Conditioning, and Contemporary.
Wellspan Ortho keeps our dancers safe with their frequent visits and free consultations. Their trainers and physicians consult with key faculty and evaluate the pre-professional dancers to keep them in optimum shape and guide their health and fitness.
Our PERFORMING COMPANY EXPERIENCE brings you pre-professional Performance Training through the Midstate Ballet, Midstate Musical Theatre and the GYDance Crew, all very active in our community.
Many of our young dancers will have their first performance at the Appell Center for the Performing Arts in the Nutcracker Ballet or enjoy dancing in The Hip Nut. Our tiniest tots along with all the students of the school will dance for their parents in December’s Visitor’s Week, and in the June Show. We love to celebrate and share family joy and student achievement. Thousands will watch our dancers and be taken away with the arts and applaud a well-deserved “thank you” for a job well done. It all starts with small beginnings and ends as we proudly watch our students thrive in dance when they graduate to go onward and reach for their goals. We are equally proud of those who may only study with us for a brief period of time. You see, our joy is to share this extraordinary art form. We look forward to Season #49 with our dance family!
The Midstate Ballet, since 1982, is the region’s premiere pre-professional ballet company. Under the direction of Lori Garling with Lauren Yentzer as Ballet Mistress, the company provides both technical and performance training to aspiring dancers. Most youth ballet dancers are also college-bound or wish to pursue professional careers. Performance Training through Midstate Ballet membership develops the versatility in dancers that is needed to excel at leading universities and with professional choreographers and companies. Dancers are placed by audition of the choreographer into appropriate pieces for their level and abilities. Not all dancers are cast in every piece. In addition, select dancers are invited to educational trips/conventions and solo competitions.
